Their standard capacity is 7.8 grams of nitrous oxide. In Europe, where the production and use of whip cream chargers originated, there are presently three factories involved in its production. The latter are 100% recyclable where steel recycling programs exist. While refillable chargers have been available, today only non-refillable ones are used. Their interior volume is 10 cm 3 (about 0.6 in³) and most brands contain 8 g of N 2O under pressure. The chargers' walls are about 2 mm (about 1/16 inch) thick to withstand the great pressure of the gas contained within. The cylinders are about 6.3 cm (2.5 inches) long and 1.8 cm (0.7 inches) wide, and are rounded at one end with a narrow tip at the other end.
